Using HoverStash

What does HoverStash actually do?

It intercepts drags. While you drag a file, HoverStash pops up at a screen edge or under your cursor, holds onto the file, then hands it off wherever you decide — another app, a different desktop, or back to its source. Think of it as a clipboard, but for drag-and-drop.

Which platforms are supported?

macOS 13 (Ventura) or later on both Apple Silicon and Intel, and Windows 10 or later on x86_64. A single purchase covers both. Linux isn't supported today.

Does it need internet access?

Only for license activation and periodic revalidation (once every 6 hours). Once activated, HoverStash works fully offline for up to 7 days between check-ins. Everything you stash stays on your local disk — no cloud, no sync.

Can HoverStash convert files?

Yes. Images (PNG / JPEG / WebP / GIF) round-trip through the built-in converter with quality control; documents convert between Markdown / HTML / plain text, and PDF text extraction works as a one-way source. Right-click any stashed item to pick a target format.

Account + licensing

Do I need an account?

Only after you purchase. The app works anonymously during the 5-day free window. Once you buy, we send a license key and email magic-links to sign in to your dashboard at app.hoverstash.tech.

How many devices does one license cover?

One active device per license. You can freely deactivate on one machine and activate on another — no limits on how many times you switch. If you genuinely need two seats (work + personal), buy two licenses or email us; we'll help.

What counts as an 'update' in the £19/yr renewal?

Every release published during your renewal window. If you lapse, your installed version keeps working forever — you just stop receiving new releases until you renew.

Can I move my license to a new computer?

Yes. From Settings → Account on your old device, click Deactivate; then activate with the same key on your new device. There's no limit on how often you move.

Privacy + security

Do you track what I drag?

No. We have no analytics inside the app. HoverStash never reads file contents beyond generating a thumbnail preview for image types, and those previews never leave your device.

What data do you store on your servers?

Your email, a masked version of your license key, the machine fingerprint (an opaque hash), and billing history — only what's needed to manage the license you bought. That's it. Full details on the privacy page.

Is payment data stored by you?

No. All payments are processed by Stripe. We never see your card number; Stripe gives us a customer id and an event history for billing purposes only.

Refunds + support

What's the refund policy?

Under UK consumer law you have 14 days after purchase to request a refund on the digital product, for any reason. After that window we'll still consider refunds on a case-by-case basis if something is genuinely broken — email support@hoverstash.tech.

How do I get support?

Email support@hoverstash.tech from the address you used to purchase. We aim to reply within two working days.

Will HoverStash keep working if you disappear?

Yes. Your installed version continues to run once activated. The license re-check tolerates up to 7 days of server downtime; beyond that you may need to reactivate. We'll publish a contingency guide if we ever wind the service down.
